The Science of Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy (RLT), also known as photobiomodulation (PBM), uses specific wavelengths of light to penetrate the skin and stimulate cellular function. At Lumetive, we’ve engineered our devices to deliver optimal wavelengths for maximum therapeutic benefit.

How It Works

When red and near-infrared light photons penetrate the skin, they are absorbed by mitochondria—the powerhouses of our cells. This absorption triggers a cascade of biological effects:

  • Increased ATP Production: Enhanced cellular energy supports repair and regeneration.
  • Reduced Oxidative Stress: Lower levels of reactive oxygen species protect cells from damage.
  • Improved Circulation: Enhanced blood flow delivers more oxygen and nutrients to tissues.
  • Reduced Inflammation: Anti-inflammatory effects support faster recovery.

Why Wavelength Matters

Our devices are precisely calibrated to deliver 660nm (red) and 850nm (near-infrared) wavelengths — the two wavelengths with the most robust clinical evidence for therapeutic effectiveness.
